July 17 th 2003 I’m not sure what I’m feeling right now, nervous or anxious or excited or all mixed. I’m sitting in my window seat, watching the flight caterers push away the giant staircase(truck). ‘Mam!! Seat Belts please!’ Suddenly I hear a beautiful voice of the Airhostess telling me to wear my seat belts.. I try to do it myself, I'm panicking & my brain isn’t thinking straight. Women sitting next to me comes to my rescue ‘Let me help you dear!’ . It is embarrassing, I’m 21 and I’m going to US of A all alone to do my masters and I don’t know how to wear seat belts!!! This is not my first flight.. I have been in flight once before to Delhi with my cousin. But this is different.. This is my first international flight, all alone, my way to experience freedom and Life. If my grandma was alive this minute, she wouldn’t have believed I’m going to US of A to study.. But I’m sure she would be proud of me. I may not be a high-ranker but I have lot of dreams..

The Money Talk

Image
I didn’t expect to have “Money talk” with my little Man this early... It happened yesterday with no signs or warning bells.. I wouldn’t say the talk went great, read till the end to see what happens.. A: Mom, where do you buy money? Me: you can’t buy money baby..You need to work for it. A:   No, but who gives you money? Me: My boss A: where does she get it? Me: From her boss A: so that boss has lots of money??? Me: No, he gets it from Bank A: what happens if all the money in the world is gone Me: they print new ones.. A: how? Me: Banks have a printer to print money A: oh yea, I have seen them.. I was confused and asked him Me: where? A: in my school office room, I have seen a copier machine!!! Me: No, not that copier.. Banks have their own and that’s where Money gets printed.. A: Yea, I know.. I was just tricking you.. ha ha ha <Laughs uncontrollably) I should’ve known this.. that’s Cheeky boy and poor me for you!!! FYI, picture in thi

Parental Hack- UltimateTrump card!!

I was told by my parents and elders, If I do something wrong then god will punish me (Samy Kanna Kuthum!! - God will poke my eyes).. After I grew up to know the right and the wrong, I always thought I shouldn’t use this as wild card to teach my kids behaviour. Little did I know then, it’s not that easy and they don’t have any patience to listen let alone my lectures. Especially if you are dealing with a stubborn pre-schooler with some ego (#TestedandVerified 5 yr olds have Ego). When it comes to A, I  have lot more patience than my usual level especially when it comes to tricky situations.. If it’s an accident like spilling milk or breaking a cup by mistake. My usual response is ‘ Its OK! Accidents Happen, I will take care of it ’.. When he does intentionally, that’s when I get upset.. Really upset!! You would look for escape routes and emergency exits!!! This happened long before when A was not even 5, he behaved so bad that he refused to play nice with a boy of his age wh

Operation Toilet!

A is smart in coming up with new ideas for anything and everything we talk at home, most of which doesn’t concern him at all. Knowing him well, I can expect to hear an idea even from other side of the house while playing with his Legos. Other day he was giving me ideas to Start/Finish work by 3 to pick him up on time from School… Another time we went for Rug shopping, I was hesitant to get a new one as A plays with the edges and spoils  them.. His immediate response was to nail the rug to the floor, so he won’t roll and spoil them… List goes on and on..  Operation Toilet -This hilarious incident happened  few weeks back when A was down with leg pain. Both his knees was in so much pain, he refused to walk; in fact he refused to even stand straight for few days. PC: pinart One such night, A wakes us up to go to the Toilet. Its urgent, I can see him dance sitting on the bed.. But he refused to walk or stand or let G carry him to the loo (even lifting him caused pain).. We

Beware: New school parent !!

My blog has been quite last few weeks as the first-time-school-parent getting used to school routines. I’m still not sure whether I’m doing it all and right.. I always have a feeling I missed something. Everyone asks how is he coping at school? My answer is he is coping very well much better than I am. His usual routine to and from & at home is same. But for me, I’m still getting used to the fact that I must remember to book/cancel his after care, make sure I read the news letters and all other 10 notifications from school EVERYDAY and making sure to send his absence notes to school when he is sick, other blahs. This is just administrative work, other than this, packing the lunch box, snack box, fruit box.. I can hear you saying ‘Tell me about it!’...Yea right, I do not remember having so many choices when I was a kid. There was only one break for lunch, we never had TWO snack break in school... Not just any snack, it has to be a healthy one, which is the hardest part... A d
