Being kind vs Being Nice

So, there I was, at a Thai joint with a bunch of people I know—let's call them The Acquaintance bunch . The mood was high, the chattiness was maximum, and the orders were... complex. The majority in the group(not me), of course, were getting the Vegan Fried Rice , because it's 2025 and we're trying to be good to the planet (and probably our colons). But everyone also needed a unique, bespoke spice level . We're talking a Scoville-scale rainbow of requests. We waited an appropriate( nice way to say we waited for a long time) amount of time, which is to say, long enough for the conversation to move from small talk about the weather to details of the future travel plans. This is an image of a feast my dear friend cooked for me when I visited her- Kindness to the core.  and many eternities later.. The  Nervous Waiter arrived, plates in hand, looking like a bomb disposal expert trying to decide which wire to cut. She held up two plates of identical-looking rice and meekly a...

Bula Vanakka to me

Its been exactly a year since I blogged properly, I felt lost for a while.. Woke up today with memories in FB showing one of my old post and that motivated me to get back to my space.  where do I start? Guess I can start with what I enjoy the most- writing about my conversations with lil A . Lil A stayed home almost 5 to 6 months in last 1 yr with 4 lockdowns.  Pretty much staying home together for that long made us Tom and Jerry.. Just without violence..and more endless arguments for anything from who gets the snack from pantry or switch off lights at night to everything..  Recently he started saying "Amma, you are so annoying!!" often... and in few minutes he gives a hug or kiss to cool me down.  March'21 I went for a weekend getaway with my GFs to Keyneton, stayed 2 nights and 3 days.. I called G after dropped my friends .. A picked up the phone, and the conversation went like this..  Me: Hi baby!! A  Where are you? When will you be home amma? Me: I...

Lockdown Diaries : Acknowledging our emotions..

Lot of us ignore our mental health thinking it's for the weakest and/or it's for the those with chronic issues. The truth is, many of us including me doesn't acknowledge or address the constant fear or anxiety in this pandemic. It started off somewhere in China then Italy then rest of the world..slowly in to your town and now, someone in your street or apartment or someone in your circle has it.  Some of us can't stop thinking the symptoms of the virus even though cold and headache is common otherwise. I'm writing this because I'm strongest and bravest as a person, however I have to admit I would've hallucinated having the virus almost every week especially after my trips to grocery shops or when I have headache or blocked nose (due to freezing weather). Constant fear or anxiety is draining and tiring.. I cover it up nicely by ignoring or distracting myself with a good episode of Netflix. Are you like me going through this?   What I realised is we don't ...

Start of Pandemic

2020 started off with travel plans, wedding plans, big birthday plans, investment plans for so many of us.. Everything is put off  when the world realized the seriousness of Corona Virus. When it was within the walls of China, it was just some one else problem, when it happened in Italy and Iran, developed countries just blamed their administration. Right now when the reality kicks in for  developed countries, they are failing big time. Anxiety is building up for small businesses and those who are in non-essential jobs, many already waiting for aid from the government. Government is struggling to focus on two equally important issues, one is to address COVID and protect the citizens at the same time making sure the economy doesn't fall.  I don't think this situation can be avoided, but can be controlled. Sitting in our living room we can criticize the decision made by the powers of administration, reality is they need to balance health and economy to sustain. As ...

Valentine's day

Image
Its not an ideal V-day to spend at the hospital, any day spent at the hospital as a patient/carer is not an ideal day for that matter.Don't you agree?.. Our V-day well spent in Children's Hospital for A's leg injury.. I'm not here to whinge about the-pain-of-seeing-A-in-pain, I wanted to share why I feel hospitals are an ideal place to spend this day. One could argue, Hospitals are run like corporates and its a Billion dollar business..I agree, however my point is Doctors, Nurses and other medical practitioner/support staffs at the hospital doing human service. You could also argue, they get paid to do their Job. My point is when the whole world lives in an illusion of Money, everyone is forced to run for it. No exceptions..So lets keep Money aside for this post, just think of the core "human values"- Kindness & Empathy.. Its Valentine's day morning, I can see sun lazily rising up .. It is a windy summer morning, my kinda weather for a nice long w...

Positivism for better world!!

My usual weekday starts with a cup of tea with G..Its the best time for us, that’s actually the only time we get to talk quietly without little brat interrupting us “Excuse me Amma! Can I talk  now!”. Today A woke up early with me, but G was trying to make him go back to sleep. I was alone having my tea , I took my laptop for some browsing. God knows why I started with the NEWS page. Within minutes, I regretted. I see ONLY sad news- its like we live in the SAD world- ONLY thing happening around us are  burglary/rape/kidnap/murder/how politicians deceiving the world .. There is no SIGN of positive news to start with.. It really got me and I closed my laptop.  However, the “stuff” from the NEWS running in my head still. I don’t feel good. By then G has given up making A sleep. A comes out and gives me a hug(Blessed).I would have accepted a meaningful hug from anyone by that time to make me feel better. Iam lucky that I have 2 souls who does it often to remind me ...
