All is (not) Fair

Image
I wrote beauty and the beast when my little boy was 4yrs old, it was difficult to explain him why we have different skin color. Now he is 6.5yrs and I think he is fairly mature for his age. The same old question popped up recently but this time, he had a solution. ‘Mom, I was born in Australia and why do I still have different color?’ ‘Baby, its doesn’t matter where you were born, we are still your parents. You get what we got’.  He thought about it for a while and said ‘ Why can’t we all have same color, like everyone in this world’ . It really melted my heart hearing him say that, in his little mind he had a solution for unfairness. But.. Yes, there is a big BUT… How do I tell him that babies get killed in some parts of this world just because it’s a GIRL. How do I tell him that there are children in this world who had to walk 5 km everyday to get a decent education? How do I explain him that people kill each other and call it honor kil...

Parental Hack- UltimateTrump card!!

I was told by my parents and elders, If I do something wrong then god will punish me (Samy Kanna Kuthum!! - God will poke my eyes).. After I grew up to know the right and the wrong, I always thought I shouldn’t use this as wild card to teach my kids behaviour. Little did I know then, it’s not that easy and they don’t have any patience to listen let alone my lectures. Especially if you are dealing with a stubborn pre-schooler with some ego (#TestedandVerified 5 yr olds have Ego). When it comes to A, I  have lot more patience than my usual level especially when it comes to tricky situations.. If it’s an accident like spilling milk or breaking a cup by mistake. My usual response is ‘ Its OK! Accidents Happen, I will take care of it ’.. When he does intentionally, that’s when I get upset.. Really upset!! You would look for escape routes and emergency exits!!! This happened long before when A was not even 5, he behaved so bad that he refused to play nice with a boy of his ag...

Operation Toilet!

A is smart in coming up with new ideas for anything and everything we talk at home, most of which doesn’t concern him at all. Knowing him well, I can expect to hear an idea even from other side of the house while playing with his Legos. Other day he was giving me ideas to Start/Finish work by 3 to pick him up on time from School… Another time we went for Rug shopping, I was hesitant to get a new one as A plays with the edges and spoils  them.. His immediate response was to nail the rug to the floor, so he won’t roll and spoil them… List goes on and on..  Operation Toilet -This hilarious incident happened  few weeks back when A was down with leg pain. Both his knees was in so much pain, he refused to walk; in fact he refused to even stand straight for few days. PC: pinart One such night, A wakes us up to go to the Toilet. Its urgent, I can see him dance sitting on the bed.. But he refused to walk or stand or let G carry him to the loo (even lifting him caus...

Life after death..

Last year G's granny passed away and he had to go to India to participate in the final rituals.. I had to explain A what happened to his great-granny..The conversation went like this Me: A!! Ta's granny went to God. We won't be able to see her when we go to India next time. Ta has to go to India to see her one last time.Okay!! A: oh!!! Why did she go to GOD? Me: Because god wanted her to come back to him A:Which God ? <Considering we have 'n' number of God for every thing> Me: I think Lord Vishnu,  as great granny is quite fond of Lord Vishnu. A: What happens now? Me: God will send her back as a Baby to someones' house.. A: Whose house? Me: I don't know..Only god knows where she goes next.. After few months.. this "After-life" topic comes on and off in our conversations.. Because A is just curious little monkey. One day, A: Ma!! Which god you like? <Without knowing where this is heading>  Me : Lord Krishna !! Bec...

THE NEW-ME - Coming Right up!!!

Image
We spent our long weekend with two other friends/families recently in a small beach town near-by. We rented this nice four-bedroom house close to the beach which we hardly visited!! - not that I want to visit in this cold winter weather but if driving past counts as visit then yeah- tick it as been there. But I must agree we had such a wonderful & relaxed family/friends time cooking/watching movies/making up stories/Making fun/most of all having a normal adult conversations after a long time without having to worry about kids. During the whole trip, A hardly wanted us except for few basic things. Most of the time he was self-occupied with his friends playing board games or cards or watching movies. Impressive bit is kids actually took the DVD from its case & worked it out how to play it in the player and sincerely put it back in the case after watching it without us telling or doing it for them. Simple joy of parenting you wouldn’t understan...

Happy B'day Mums..

Image
This is going to be my personal fav , not because I’m a mother.. Just because I admire every single mother in this world. Mothers don’t just imply one gender, I'm sure you agree that there are so many wonderful dads who are so true as a mother to their kids/sometimes to their spouse too. So throughout this article when I say Mother-it includes both gender who does a fantastic job of parenting. Firstly I have to say I don’t believe in these much-hyped special days (mother’s day or father’s day or valentine’s day or friendship day etc.,).. Every day is special, every day we are reminded of these people the way we do things or a place or a food or could be anything you could relate to them. Don’t you agree with me.. I choose to write this post this week because I see Mother’s day banners everywhere from Cinemas, retail shops, restaurants, even at my son’s day care..And moreover my mum's bday coming up very soon..    Good reason to write something about it..   ...
