Lyrical Rendering by lil A

Lyrics can be so dominant sometimes, you tend to forget about the music in the background and just concentrate on those lines.. Good lyrics composed in a bad music will never get attention. However, good music with good or bad or no lyrics can get its attention. That’s power of Music. If the lyrics are in the language I’m familiar with, I try to listen to the lines. I enjoy the song even more if I like the lyrics.

This post is yet another A’s journey on sharing music with me.. A is my companion when it comes to listening to music at home.. I like to tell him stories about a song or an Artist or anything that keep us talking. We usually listen to the radio that plays peppy songs and sing-a-long when at home or on the drive.. This write-up is only few incidents from this year.. Thinking of them gives me smiles (even a giggle). I thought I will make a note for my hay day..

End of last summer, one of those days we were listening to 'Hero' by Enrique on repeat mode. I was as-usual spellbound by his E’S voice.. A paused the song and calls out  'Amma, We die if we don't breathe.. why he is saying you can take my breath away? Why?' .. Trust me I tried explaining him what that song actually implied.. He was arguing about lungs and breathing and what not...I will forgive him, he is only 5yrs..

Talk about kids being so direct when they comment.. This was another lazy day at home, I was cooking, A was playing with his lego and listening to the radio.. It played Carly Rae’s ‘Call me Maybe’ .. Peppy number you get hooked on to.. Those catchy lines, which comes in between (repeats),

Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's my number
So call me maybe
When the song finished playing, A was like ‘This girl is crazy, she doesn’t give her number & She kept saying Here is my number, Call me Maybe...  I just laughed my lungs out.. it was hilarious the way he said it.. Talk about logical thinking!!!

Another incident from last weekend, I was driving G’s car.. Its only A and I riding somewhere after lunch on a hot summer day. It was just drowsy afternoon after nice lunch. Stereo system start to play Tamil melodies from the USB stick. We were listening to this beautiful song written by Vairamuthu (Lyricist -Tamil).I just admire his poetic way of expressing things.. It could be something very simple but his words will just make it splendid.

The song goes like this,

Tamil: (Song from OK Kanmani)

Malargal Kaettaen Vanamae Thanthanai..
Thanneer Kaettaen Amirtham Thanthanai..

English:
I asked for a flower, you gave me flower garden
I asked for water, you gave me sweet magic portion

(I agree I ‘m not doing any justice to his words)
--------------------

This is such romantic way to propose a person..  I repeated the song to sink in to those lines and I started to explain A the first two lines like above expecting him to understand and enjoy those lines like I did , He interrupts me and goes “Excuse me Amma, why is he not giving her what she wants & he is giving her something else?? Why doesn’t he listen to her? “  I stopped explaining the third line which goes like this  ‘What should I ask for you to give yourself to me? ' ..

I felt like a dumbo. I started laughing the whole drive; A did not understand why I’m laughing. I agree that his take on the song is right too and its completely direct and very logical.

Just on Christmas , I played my favourites from the  list.. It started with 'Last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day you gave it away..' while listening to this song, guess what A said  'Amma, how can you give your heart to someone!!!' .. I was just smiling<rolling my eyes>, used to his logical thinking by now.. and replied 'When you love someone you will give your heart.. I love you , my heart is with you'..He was like 'No!!'.. there goes another argument..

Adding this to my memory..Until next time Caio..
