Digital Detox
Digital Detox- isn't a fancy word of the decade? I see now and then people in social media taking a break and living a life like in 2000s i.e without constant notifications.
Well!! Im forced in to one this month (Yes, its a month). Recently my flip phone glitched and stopped working. I gave it to Samsung customer care. It takes 3 to 4 weeks (I know!!! it sounds like 100 years) for them to work out whether to replace or fix. Until then I have this temp phone which I don't own. I don't feel like installing all the apps and then give it away in 3 weeks time.
Its been 3 days, I don't miss the virtual world(yet) and the constant notifications. The only thing I miss is taking pictures while going for walk. Nuisance of this habit is when I had to backup 100000 pics of grass/leaves/flowers/greens/pathways.. Some of the same pic exists 10 folds. I have to either stop taking 10 pics of the same grass or flower Or consciously delete them after using it for my status. I have no explanation for my grandkids when I show them these pictures.
Another downside of this situation is I lost all my contacts and I cant msg or call anyone unless they call me and I save the contact. Is it good or bad, I dont know. I can use of this to Spring clean my contact list.
This detox situation helped me go out more for walks and finally DO those items in my to-do list I procrastinated for so long. I haven't had any ich to scroll through reels in my laptop yet. The thought of opening my laptop to check my emails and access my socials seems laborious.
The fact that I started looking in to my blog is a good outcome.
This week,
- I have only charged my phone once in last 2 days and it still has more than 50 % charge.
- I don't have ANY apps other than whatsapp (just to call my parents)
- I dont have any calender reminders- I just do what I remember. Didnt overwhelm myself with constant reminders of all classes and appointments.
- I dont have to look at 10 different apps to run my everyday life (from drinking water to steps walked)
I cant wait to see what all the things I will get to in this 3 weeks. Caio..
PS: I got my phone back after a week and all that good happened in that week flew away the minute I held my baby. Well, old habits dont die that easy.huh!? However I stopped adding too many reminders in my calender and only installed the apps I need (and the SM) and some conscious scrolling.
