Adulting - ‘Filtered’
Have you ever used a media filter to show a version you want to share with your virtual world? I need a filter to use it in the real world.
Not for my face or my body to appear any different. God NO!! I love myself to the fullest.
It's like a filter that can be programmed to react and respond to real-world subtleties. There are intentionally no dislike buttons in the virtual world; you need to ignore the posts you don't like or disagree with. Imagine if it were that easy in the real world. This is just "my concept" - just for fun.
Mute filter - This is for people like me who try to fill the silence in any conversation by oversharing. Unfortunately, there is no mute button, so I must remember to shush myself. With my brain fog, I only remember to shush after I've overshared. So, this is a super useful filter for people like me - it automatically mutes me if I overshare. You may ask how the program knows what’s oversharing. If I start talking about my most recent embarrassing moments, that is when the filter should activate.
PS: I like my clan of people who overshare - there is no guilt or judgment.
Zone Out Filter: Have you ever been in a situation where someone is lying to you, and you know it? This filter allows you to mentally "zone out" and imagine their voice singing your favourite song, so you don't have to dwell on the conversation and get upset later.
Pattern filter – "Any mistake that is repeated more than once is a choice, and when done a few times, it becomes a habit. This filter allows me to start identifying patterns of behaviour that I notice in others and block it if it happens again. This way, I don’t have to waste my energy confirming for the 100th time that I’m not imagining things.".
Voiceover filter - I want to highlight that I am typically kind and soft-spoken, but with a certain people, it's challenging to maintain a soft tone. This filter automatically adjusts my tone and language, it sounds better. Rest assured that my intentions are pure, but I find it difficult to filter my irritation with certain individuals. This filter is particularly effective when used with the Pattern filter.
Jokes aside, I wish it were as easy to pick up new skills as it is to use a new social app without instructions. Everyone wishes that there was an instruction booklet for adulting. The unwritten instruction is "Watch and learn," it's like the saying 'Monkeys see, monkeys do.' We observe the adults around us while growing up and become reflections of them, and we also absorb some traits from our peers while navigating adulthood.
Gotto go and pay my bills now…
