Nostalgia

Two of my work got selected in a poetry competition run by Greater Dandenong Council, Victoria. Both Here and There and Nostalgia got published in a poetry book titled "HOME".  "Home" is a collection of work by talented individuals from different background. My piece here talks about nostalgic memories that  I call home.

My heart is still in that hot summer
when I was 6,
I played with my cousins climbing trees,
Innocence, laughs and sour mangoes kept me going..


My heart is still in that hot summer
when I was 10,
I tricked my friends to see who could hold the breath longest,
the cool dip, hot sun and water games kept me going..


My heart is still in that hot summer
when I was 14,
I played street cricket with my newly made friends,
Cricket, cordial and more cricket kept me going..


My heart is still in that hot summer
when I was 18,
we kissed and parted ways,
Romance, teenage crush kept me going..

 My heart is still in that hot summer
when I was 22,
I left everything behind and started a new journey,
A job, money and survival kept me going..

 My heart is still in that hot summer
When I was 25,
I made a life promise to take care of my better half,
Love, life and new beginning kept me going

 My heart is still in that hot summer
when I was 33,
I held my baby for first time, Ironic that I was born again,
Family, blessing and parenting kept me going

 Home is where is the heart is..
I’m now in my old age,
reliving every summer I cherished,
everyday, every minute of it keeps me going..
I realise now,  all my life I’ve been Home.

Rule of thumb for a blind date is to trust the process and to go on a date with no/zero expectation. You do not know who you are meeting until you see them. You cannot check their FB profile or see their stories in Insta. You go there with open mind. If you are lucky, you get a wonderful experience and stories to tell your grand children. Mine was no different, I must say I was always lucky with my blind dates. I have had so many experience of this. However, it was not like I didn't have a choice. Like most of you I too had a conventional way, but choose another way.  I'm talking about my blind dates with this world. Would you dare to go on a blind date with this world? I would. 12 to Twelve - Wisdom Sparkles

Often, I have a casual conversation with A and get surprised by some of his responses which I find very profound. I don't know whether he understands the meaning of it or it's the way children brain work - stick to rudimentary thinking, we adults complicate everything unnecessarily. I have recorded so many of our conversations in my other related posts, but this one deserves a post on its own. Little things matter  be it a gesture of care or love, last night I was down (blame the hormones!!) and was lying next to Aaryan who was busy watching TV. I turned around and asked him whether he would love me forever, he asked me “ What do you want me to say amma! ”. He was genuine when he asked me what I wanted to hear so I would feel better. He knew it was a silly question that I asked, but his presence of mind to check with me when I was feeling low was true blessing. // This is my entry to SBS - Emergence (non-fiction category)//  This is a story of a girl who dreams a new dream.  No one ever asked her what she wants to be when she grows up. I suppose a girl from a small country town have her life preplanned even before her first breath. With no surprise, her life is foretold just like any other girl in town, she would go to 2 of 3 school, college if lucky and then get married, have children, live a life for her family and die thinking she served her lives purpose. It is really a piece of cake if you follow the plan. Life is not that complicated when you have no dreams and expectation.  Ten year old me dreamed of a future to live with my parents forever.
